Riding the 6 Train

The 6 Train is always an adventure. It's the only option on the east side of Manhattan, so it's usually crowded. You have to be OK with making bodily contact with strangers.

In the summer the aromas are truly amazing. If it's humid, there is a tinge of urine. It if rained, a hint of wet dog. Then there is the mix of freshly showered bodies in the morning, and sweaty, moist people in the evening.

Seat space often comes at a premium. I try to make myself as small as possible. Others feel it's their right to spread out and make their selves at home. 40 minutes standing can be tiresome.

Is she pregnant or just heavy? Offering up your seat can be tricky. You don't want to offend anyone. I guess if she's not pregnant you just turn out to be a nice guy who offered up their seat.

Tourist can be entertaining. Weekends especially when there is construction and local trains run express, and express run local. Confusion ensues, and arguments start. They often are loud as well.

When in the Big Apple, make sure to hop on the 6 Train, and enjoy the ride!
