Ring Cycle Completion

The Ring Cycle is completed. Siegfried and Gotterdammerung. Both almost 6 hours long. Amazing sets, and the final scene was magical and wonderful. The entire set sinks into the stage, and there is mass destruction and fire. Then a flood and the ring is returned to the Rhine Maidens. The waters recede and Valhalla and the Gods burn in the distance. The end.

Ring Cycle

Last evening was our first of four operas of the Ring Cycle at the Metropolitan Opera, Das Rheingold. This was the shortest of the four, two and a half hours long, with no intermission. It started at 8:00 and was done at 10:35, plus another 10 minutes for curtain call. All of the others start at 6:00 or 6:30 and go for up to almost 6 hours!

The music, sets, lighting, costumes, and singing were all amazing. The story is similar to that of Lord of the Rings, so I promised Craig I would not shout out at any time, "Me wants the precious!"
